Grand Hyatt Singapore Lobby Upgrade: Acoustic Aluminium Baffle Ceilings by Alüm

Located at 10 Scotts Road, the Grand Hyatt Singapore gym lobby renovation reflects an evolved design philosophy that merges calmness, durability, and acoustic performance. The client, Borneo Properties Sdn Bhd, envisioned a refined environment that promotes guest wellness while meeting acoustic and environmental standards. With Alüm Baffle 502, a precision-engineered aluminium ceiling panel system, the outcome is a space defined by balance, rhythm, and sustainable construction integrity.

Crafting a Contemporary Acoustic Experience

The design narrative centered on rhythm and proportion, using the geometry of baffles to shape both visual and acoustic balance. Each stage of development, from concept to installation, was a collaboration between the architect, consultant, and contractor to ensure both technical and atmospheric coherence.

The Design Direction

RSP Architects envisioned an open baffle arrangement that complemented airflow and lighting integration. The system provided acoustic control and uniform rhythm, ensuring comfort while maintaining the visual depth of aluminium architecture.

The Material Choice

Alüm Baffle 502 was chosen for its use of low VOC materials and durability. With minimal emissions and recyclable content, it represents the evolution of eco friendly acoustic panels that support sustainable hospitality interiors.

Fire and Safety Considerations

Working alongside Building Facade Group and Keong Hong Construction, the design team prioritized compliance. Aluminium, a non-combustible material, satisfies EN 13501-1 standards and resolves the enduring question: is aluminium fire resistant? Its reliability ensures long-term safety in public-use environments.

Integrating Performance with Architecture

At the core of the installation is balance; between acoustic precision, material performance, and architectural intent. The Alüm Baffle 502 system was meticulously coordinated with lighting, sprinkler lines, and air-conditioning diffusers to maintain seamless alignment throughout the space. Each element was designed to serve both function and form, allowing for concealed services while preserving the visual rhythm of the ceiling. The open spacing between baffles promotes natural air movement and optimized sound diffusion, reducing echo and maintaining a sense of calm within the active environment. Together, these layers of design, engineering, and craftsmanship establish the subtle quiet that defines a well-constructed hospitality space; one where structure, light, and atmosphere converge in equilibrium.

Detailing, Installation, and Design Development

Precision craftsmanship defined the process from layout to final finish. Every detail was executed to preserve alignment, texture, and sound absorption while maintaining flexibility for long-term maintenance.

Structural Integration

Each aluminium ceiling panel was suspended on concealed carriers, forming a lightweight but rigid frame. This process demonstrates how to install metal ceiling panels efficiently while achieving architectural continuity.

Surface Finish and Durability

Powder-coated surfaces provide moisture and corrosion resistance suited to Singapore’s tropical climate. The tone and texture align visually with adjoining aluminium cladding facade components, creating a unified architectural system.

Installation Approach

The construction sequence followed methods similar to how to install metal ceiling tiles in operational facilities. Prefabricated panels simplified assembly and reduced downtime, essential for the hotel’s continuous operations.

Acoustic and Environmental Impact

The open-baffle layout minimized reverberation while preserving a sense of openness. Together with low VOC products and sustainable acoustic panels, it contributes to low VOC emissions and aligns with global sustainability benchmarks.

Grand Hyatt Singapore and the Advancement of Aluminium Ceilings

The Grand Hyatt Singapore lobby transformation reflects how precision materials can shape both sensory experience and spatial identity. More than an architectural upgrade, the project represents a dialogue between form, function, and atmosphere; where every linear rhythm of the Alüm Baffle 502 contributes to balance and composure. Through close collaboration between RSP Architects, Building Facade Group, and Keong Hong Construction, the installation process became an exercise in technical mastery and design restraint.

Crafted from durable aluminium and engineered for acoustic control, the baffle ceiling establishes a standard of quiet strength that defines the hotel’s modern wellness and elegance. Its fire-rated composition ensures long-term reliability, while its low VOC materials and sustainable production methods align with contemporary environmental priorities. The refined geometry of the ceiling draws the eye upward, subtly guiding movement while improving comfort and clarity.

This project reaffirms Alüm’s role in advancing architectural aluminium systems that respond to both the physical and emotional dimensions of space. By combining acoustic performance with material purity, the Alüm Baffle 502 demonstrates how aluminium baffle ceilings can transform hospitality interiors into environments that invite focus, relaxation, and calm; crafted not for attention, but for experience.
